Details: This work correlates the linear to the nonlinear seismic responses. Different nonlinear effects were evaluated, and predictions of the seismic demands were made with acceptable reliability for two performance levels. The first of which was the UBC'97, which represents seismic events that have a 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years (10/50). The other level was the Near-Field strong ground motion (N-F).A set of three correction bias factors were then evaluated, which correct for individual nonlinear effects. Four response parameters were investigated which are the story displacements, drift angles, ductility demands, and shears. It was found that the response parameters are generally overestimated in the linear elastic analysis, compared to the bilinear models. The stiffness degradation and strength deterioration reduce the difference between the linear and nonlinear responses. The P-Delta effects, however, were found to have negligible participation to the response of the building under both groups of earthquakes. It is believed that the choice of structural system is causing this behavior.
