The history of the NBA is full of great scorers who have dominated the game in different ways. Big men like Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O’Neal owned the paint and scored a ton of points using their combination of size and skills down on the low block. Meanwhile, wings like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant got to the rim with ease and hit midrange jumpers with little to no difficulty. Then, there came smaller guards who could shoot the ball from the outside and drain three-pointers in bunches to negate their lack of size and athleticism.
In short, basketball is played in different ways, regardless of how big or small the player is. Different players have their own ways of scoring the ball. The ultimate goal is to get the ball to go through the hoop. It does not matter if the player needs to dunk it, hit hook shots, or shoot long-range jumpers from 30 feet. As long as it results in points up on the board, it works for the scorer.
But there are also different players who stand out as some of the most unique scorers in the game. They have unique skills that are hard to replicate, even in any era of the sport. One such player is George Gervin.
