Details: ‘Longing for the ancient Willow’ (from the book 'UnDanish Stories') is a romantic thriller which is patched over two physical realities, overlapping the hero’s inevitable ballistic karma of a cultural shock. In the first part of the story Jonathan is in love with a volunteer girl from Denmark. Here the attachment of the hero to the Willow tree, however, is paradoxically revealing the true nature of his beloved girlfriend. However, love blinds the hero’s judgment and he yields to temptation. Unaware of the Willow’s warning Jonathan follows Samina to her unknown country. However, the mystery of their future relationship is only revealed in the second part of the story, through the realization of the hero after he finds true love. But true love in the wrong place and in the wrong time forces Jonathan and Tatiana to hide in a grim reality, until it turns their dream of a happy life together into a crime scene. The criticism in this story serves as a warning for the innocent not to plunge into diabolical adventures. Both Jonathan and Tatiana become victims due to their innocence pertaining the jungle law. They are ignorant of the evil nature of those whom they firstly engaged with in the past. Thus, their love becomes forbidden in a mad world which is ruled and governed by the followers of a beastly level of consciousness. But an escape from the physical world cannot always be afforded by those who follow true love. This story is the first story which appears in the book ‘UnDanish Stories’. However, unlike the other UnDanish Stories which are satirical and deal with the absurd, this story is written in a serious diction and tone. Furthermore it deals with the issues of freedom, love, power, social oppression, and unfortunate personal relationships. The destinies of the hero and his true love Tatiana is intertwined with the destiny of the Willow tree. Unlike the wicked members of mankind which follow destruction, nature is as pure as love. Thus, the fate of the true lovers is linked to the fate of the Willow tree. Such a link demystifies the gist and core of human behavior, and furthermore leaves the meek reader flabbergasted at the end.
